FAQ

What is the process to see a Psychiatrist?

Salvado offers a Specialist Service, we require a referral from your General Practitioner or other health professional.

Once the referral has been received by our reception team (via email or fax) and accepted by one of the doctors, you will be contacted to book an initial consultation.

You will then receive confirmation of this booking from our reception team via your preferred method of electronic notification.

What do I need to bring with me?

•  A list of your current medications.
•  Any previous investigations or tests that may be helpful to your clinician.
•  A support person - this may be a friend, family member, or partner.

Where can I park?

What am I consenting to?

Informed Consent

You can expect to receive honest, comprehensive and appropriate information or education material from your clinician. This is focused on the worries you have, and the treatment options that are recommended and agreed to by you.

You are welcome to ask questions and will receive answers that are understandable and you have the right to request an interpreter/advocate if required.

What does this cost?

Each clinician provides an individual service, we ask that you contact our reception team to obtain an estimate for the services that you are seeking.

Payment via EFTPOS is required at the time of the consultation, including a small Credit Card surcharge. We cannot accept any cash payments.

If you are approved for care by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), then all billing will be directed to DVA. (Please note: DVA and Garrison require current referrals for all consultation billing).

If your clinical costs have been approved by an Insurance Agency/Worker’s Compensation (such as ICWA), then all billing will be directed accordingly. We ask that you provide the necessary details to our reception team in advance.

Can I claim any money back?

All consultations have associated item numbers that can be rebated by Medicare. The rebate ranges from 30%-45% of the full fee. For more accurate rebate information please contact our reception team.

It is essential to obtain this rebate that you have a valid referral, either from your General Practitioner (standard GP referrals are valid for 12 months, indefinite GP referrals are valid for 5 years), or a specialist (valid for 3 months).

Following payment of your consultation, our reception team are able to claim a rebate from Medicare for you and provide you with a receipt.

This rebate will be directed into the bank account that has been nominated by Medicare. Please contact Medicare (13 21 50) if you would like to change your bank account details.

What if I cannot make my consultation or forget to attend?

If you need to reschedule, please call our reception team as soon as possible and we can organise a more suitable session time.

If it is less than 24 hours before your appointment time, or if you forget to attend your scheduled consultation, a fee may be incurred. Unfortunately there is no rebate for a late cancellation or missed appointment, and it is not covered by DVA or Insurance Agencies.
